With more than 154,000 acres, the area across Santa Monica and Malibu offers one of the largest urban national parks in the country. Perfect for hiking, rock climbing, mountain biking, horseback riding, camping, and so much more (!!!) this area offers some of the best hiking trails in Southern California and most magnificent ocean views. Here are five of the best hikes with ocean view near Los Angeles!

1. Solstice Canyon Trail

Distance: 3.4 mi – Elevation: 778 ft – Time: 2 hr

Solstice Canyon Trail is an incredible scenic and dog-friendly hiking trail in Malibu. It features the oldest still-standing stone building in Malibu, a small creek and waterfall, and impressive ocean views for your perfect hiking pictures.

2. Mishe Mokwa Trail to Sandstone Peak

MODERATE, 12896 Yerba Buena Road, Malibu, CA 90265
Distance: 5.8 mi – Elevation: 1,318 ft – Time: 3 hr

The Mishe Mokwa Trail to Sandstone Peak  is definitely one of the most beautiful hikes in Socal. The hike features a giant split rock, the highest point in the Santa Monica Mountains, and the breathtaking Echo Cliffs — particularly popular for rock climbing, take it all in!

3. Temescal Canyon Trail

Distance: 3.1 mi – Elevation: 815 ft – Time: 2 hr

The Temescal Canyon Trail is particularly famous for its Skull Rock formation. It features seasonal waterfalls, extraordinary coastal views, and shaded canyons. Only pitfall: No dogs allowed in Topanga State Park but thankfully that doesn’t apply to most of my friends so I’m usually in good company anyway.

4. Los Liones Canyon to Parker Mesa Trail

Distance: 10.5 mi – Elevation: 2,350 ft – Time: 5 hr

The Los Liones Canyon to Parker Mesa Trail climbs from the Pacific Palisades into Topanga State Park. The Los Liones Trail features a wonderful lush canyon with a decent elevation gain. The trail then meets up  with the system of fire roads in Topanga State Park that lead up to the top of Parker Mesa, with one of the most incredible coastal views in Los Angeles.

5. Malibu Lake Trail

MODERATE, 27332-27376 Waycross Drive, Agoura Hills, CA 91301
Distance: 6.1 mi – Elevation: 235 ft – Time: 2.5 hr

Situated in Malibu Creek State Park, this hike offers 30+ miles of trails and fire roads with a ton of side activities possible like swimming, fishing, and rock climbing. And for you movie buffs out there is has been a filming site for “The Planet of the Apes,” and the TV show “M*A*S*H”!
