The title says it all. You are here to find out all about HIIT and how you can finally get started. In this article, I will provide you with a basic HIIT workout routine as well as some awesome gyms in the greater Los Angeles area.
What is HIIT?
HIIT stands for high-intensity interval training and is a form of exercise where you give an all-out effort through quick and intense bursts of exercise, which are then followed by short recovery periods. This method allows you to burn more calories in a shorter amount of time and compared to many other forms of exercise, further increases your post-workout calorie-burning capacity.
What makes HIIT workouts so special?
As one of the top fitness trends of 2017, its popularity stems from the ease of modifying workouts for individuals of all fitness levels. This means that you will be able to adjust the difficulty just right to push yourself and choose from a variety of exercise “mediums” such as cycling, walking, swimming, aqua training, elliptical cross-training, and group exercise classes.
What are some of top benefits of HIIT?
Although there are many benefits of doing HIIT workouts, here is a concise list of some benefits that may interest you!
- helps build endurance and strength, which will increase the length of time you can workout for and how hard your workouts are
- burns calories and fat in a shorter period of time by increasing your oxygen consumption, which then boosts your metabolism
- utilizes your own body weight so there is little to no equipment necessary—all you need is some space and time
- challenges you to push your limits, but also a very fun experience at the same time because of the variety of workouts you can choose from
What is a good HIIT workout for beginners?
This is actually one of my favorite workouts because it targets all areas of the body and requires absolutely no equipment at all. For this workout, you would do it for 1 full circuit. Feel free to take a screenshot so you can go back to it from time to time!
