Nobody wants to be dripping sweat on a date, but you can still be active and romantic at the same time. Here are a few ideas to have a fun date in LA that’s not just dinner and a movie, with the added bonus of getting a little exercise in.
Virtual Reality experience
VR is the next big thing, and virtual reality experiences are popping up everywhere. Virtual Reality Games – located in both Universal City and Hollywood – offers a variety of games from Rick and Morty to Batman. Prices range from $35-$45 depending on the time of your reservation, and you have access to all games for an hour. If you’re willing to venture a little further from LA, head to The Void in Downtown Disney to fight Darth Vader and lava monsters on planet Mustafar. Not only will you see the Star Wars universe come to life, you’ll even feel vibrations and a warm sensation if you get blasted, and you’ll smell smoke when you get close to lava.
Adrenaline is often mistaken for love, so taking your date on a daring adventure might strengthen your feelings for each other. Hang gliding is a unique and thrilling activity that your date will never forget (best date ever!!). For first-timers, there are companies that provide all the equipment and instructors to guide you through your experience. Personally, this is something I would love to do with a date, because it shows that you’re adventurous and willing to take risks. Stand up paddle boarding is a fairly easy activity to pick up that surprisingly provides a full-body workout. Unlike surfing where you’re trying to catch waves, SUP is more relaxing: once you get past the waves, you simply float on the water. If you’re worried about getting pummeled by waves on the ocean, Marina Del Rey is a good option for calmer waters. This activity makes for a good date – what’s more romantic than spending a day on the ocean with bae? Plus, you’ll get to see your date in a swimsuit 😉 If you’ve never SUPed before, here’s a beginner’s guide to make sure you don’t look like a noob in front of your date.
A casual cruise along the coast is the perfect date idea. Grab your boo and a couple beach cruisers (available for rent all around Santa Monica) and bike up the coast toward Malibu. You’ll get some cardio exercise while enjoying the Southern California weather and stunning beaches. But whatever you do, please avoid the Birds zipping around you – you’re the one actually getting a workout in. Check out this article on the Marvin Braude bike trail.
Hopefully these active date ideas inspired you to go out and explore LA with your bae. Break out of your normal, boring dating routine, or just try something new with someone you care about.
